Thomas Chow is a video director and interdisciplinary creator, focusing on the creation of video art, creative curation, and community practices. Since graduating from the School of Journalism and Communication at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2021, he has led various video projects, including narrative short films, advertisements, and documentaries, and video works have been showcased in M+, HKMOA, Oi!, etc.

 

In the view of video production, Thomas is currently liaised with SONOVA as the impact producer under SONOVA Collective. He worked with different corporations (e.g. Swire, Hong Kong Jockey Club Charitable Trust, Starbucks, EKEO, Sunlife Hong Kong, Otto International ,etc.), educational institutions (e.g. HKUST, CUHK, etc.) and NGOs (like SVhk, Hong Kong Maritime Museum, Time Auction, OWL HK, etc.) . He helped them to produce impactful stories through multimedia formats and tell humanistic stories through different video formats, including documentaries, corporate videos, online video, reels ,etc. 

 

In terms of multimedia work, Thomas Chow has explored different fields in creation. Recent works include nature documentary “The Newt Diary”, documenting the story of the Paramesotriton hongkongensis, social music animation “The Female Gate Painter”, the experimental film "What if Hong Kong Explodes?", discussing local youth issues through experimental format. Others include the narrative short film "Sunset Fraud," and the documentaries for Every Life Is A Song.

In terms of curatorial work, Thomas had initiated his solo exhibition - “The Matter of Growth” with creative partners to discuss “Growth” with the public through art-tech and multimedia arts with social contexts under the support from HKADC. Other curatorial works like “Imaginations” , a community arts exhibition for LWFSS, which guided a group of high school students to create their own video projects that resonated with their community. He also participated in different community projects that were initiated by SONOVA, Voltra, MaD Asia, etc. which further expands his dedication in art intervention in community contexts.

 

Recently, Thomas Chow has started to explore the use of technology to art creation and hopes to continue using the community as materials and present community creations to the audience through experimental art forms.
