In 2023, Taikoo Primary School (TPS) celebrated its 100th anniversary since its founding by Swire Group. Over the century, TPS’s transformation was closely linked to the history of Hong Kong and the industrial development in Quarry Bay.
After nearly one year of content curation, research, and editing, SONOVA published a 100-page commemorative book and produced 4 feature videos, not only to celebrate this important milestone of TPS, Swire Group, and the community, but to also share the heartwarming stories that embody the school’s rich history and educational philosophy.
Over the research process spanning a year, SONOVA collected stories from multiple stakeholders–the Principal, alumni, parents and students. These stories were further organised and told through text, visual presentations, and videos.
Feature Videos
The four videos–characterised by the key colours of TPS in red, white, and blue–were filmed to embody the history and spirit of the school. The videos were broadcasted at the school’s official 100th anniversary ceremony.
The thematic video introduces the school’s mission and educational philosophy from different stakeholders’ perspectives.
Change features the heartwarming story of three generations of TPS students from the same family
Growth presents the schools’ efforts in parent-school cooperation to provide a happy learning environment and support students’ balanced development.
Connection highlights the school’s values in treating students with love and care with the retiring Principal Ms. Chan.
Commemorative Book
Through storytelling from different angles, SONOVA brought together a century of Taikoo Primary School’s history and reminisced the fond memories of generations of students.
SONOVA joined hands with The Swire Archives to launch an "Open Call for Artefacts" online, mobilising alumni to lend treasured objects from their cherished school days. Nine groups of artefacts were selected to uncover how society and everyday life used to be in the past.
“Every object tells a story if you know how to read it”
— Henry Ford

One special artefact was a school diary from the 1950s which gave us a glimpse of some interesting mundanes of students’ lives in old Hong Kong.
Another narrative focused on the sense of identity and collective memory across generations. SONOVA researched and examined old photographs to chronicle the transformation of the school’s uniform (from emphasising on functionality and durability after the World War, to adopting inclusive designs in recent years). The article encapsulated a century of uniform history and brought sentimental value to different generations of TPS alumni.
